Mason Greenwood has reportedly picked Manchester United over Barcelona. He would be trading with the Red Devils starting next season after a year-long loan at Getafe.
This came after the new Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, publicly announced that the youngster is 100% United breed and the club will start the process to decide on his future.
The Red Devils would have a tough decision to make over the 22-year-old after releasing a statement last summer confirming that he would not continue as a United player.
They went as far as putting him up for sale, but the one-cap England player struggled to generate any interest before joining Getafe on loan for the season.
Greenwood has impressed with his return to football. He already has seven goals and five assists in 24 appearances for the new season, and the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in a potential permanent deal.
But the new hierarchy at Old Trafford could render the La Liga top-boys dream futile.
Greenwood has already confirmed that he would turn down a permanent move to Barcelona if United made it clear that he could return to the club.
The 22-year-old said that he has a debt to the fans and Erik ten Hag, having not played for the team in over two years.
However, the Red Devils are open to selling Greenwood and are hoping to rack up as much as £34 million to help fund new signings and kickstart the Ratcliffe era.
Should Manchester United let him leave or stay, considering they have a lack of depth in forward positions, it would depend on the management after understanding the facts and not the hype.
So far, the strongest links have been to Barcelona, but the Catalan giant has neck-strangling financial troubles, and with a new head coach in the mix, the likeliness of a big-money transfer seems unimaginable.
