FC Barcelona has six players nominated for La Liga Team of the Season for the 2023–24 campaign.
The Catalan giant top scorer Robert Lewandowski is first on the list with 16 goals to his name, thanks to his stunning hat-trick against Valencia, which further pushes him into the chase for the Pichichi award.
Defenders Ronald Araujo and Joao Cancelo make the cut, along with Frenkie de Jong and Ilkay Gundogan. The last on the list is none other than the 16-year-old wonderkid Lamine Yamal.
Well, Lamine being one of Barcelona's players in contention is a no-brainer. He's been absolutely ruthless since growing into the squad, not forgetting that he already has four league goals, and his last one against Mallorca (1-0) was so clutch that it got picked as the best La Liga goal of that month.
Real Madrid, with eight players, tops the list as the club with the most nominations: Andriy Lunin, Dani Carvajal, Toni Rüdiger, Fede Valverde, Toni Kroos, Rodrygo, Vinicius, and Jude Bellingham.
High-flying Girona also has a host of players nominated, with Daley Blind, Miguel Gutiérrez, Yan Couto, Aleix García, Sávio, and Artem Dovbyk all in contention.
That said, it's been a disappointing month for Xavi's men, who are currently dragging the league's second place with Girona, their Catalan neighbor. But that's quite forgivable considering how the club's top-ballers have been ridiculed and ravaged by injuries since the beginning of the 2023–24 campaign.
