Pau Cubarsí, a 17-year-old graduate of La Masia, is making a name for himself in FC Barcelona's first team as a central defender.
This season, Cubarsí has been a standout in Barça's defense, contributing significantly to the team’s four clean sheets across all competitions under Hansi Flick.
Although Pau Cubarsí was initially included in Spain’s provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2024, he was one of the final players dropped from Luis de la Fuente's list.
Despite this, the young defender has already made an impressive 35 senior appearances for Barcelona, with 24 of those coming under Xavi Hernández.
Pau Cubarsí Earns a Call-Up to Spain’s Senior Squad
Cubarsí was also part of Spain’s Olympic team that recently won gold, just weeks after de la Fuente guided the national side to victory in EURO 2024.
During the last international break, Cubarsí played for Spain’s U-21 squad, but with some key defensive absences—such as Rodri—he has been called up to the senior team once again.
However, while Cubarsí has made the squad, a few notable Barcelona players have been left out.
Inigo Martinez, despite his strong start to the season under Flick, has not been selected. Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde have also missed out on the call-up for these fixtures.
Meanwhile, Barça stars Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Ferran Torres remain key members of the national team.
Pedri and Yamal are regular starters, while Torres typically comes off the bench. Due to injuries, Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez have not been included in the squad.
