FC Barcelona, under Xavi Hernández, have scored in 25 consecutive matches in the league since the boring goalless draw at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Getafe, on the opening weekend of the season.
That's a milestone for a team highly criticized for being underfiring despite being besieged with troubles since the beginning of the campaign.
If we're to consider the depth spared by injury, it'll be needless to say that FC Barcelona are a goalscoring machine in La Liga this season. Playing 25 matches and scoring in each of those is an enviable stat.
Moreover, Barca have found the net on no less than 56 occasions, making them the second-top scorers in the division behind the new kid-on-the-block Girona.
Xavi's goalscoring spree is comparable to some other historical streaks along FC Barcelona's database.
If he can lead the team to netting against the next opponent (Athletic Club) in San Mamés on Sunday, his boys would equal the impressive run of 26 games set by Ronald Koeman's side in the 2020–21 season.
After shattering that, he could then target Pep Guardiola's staggering record of 34 goals in the league in 2010/11 and 35 in the 2008/09 season.
After he's conquered both, he could then start eyeing that of Tito Vilanova and then Jordi Roura, when the legendary managers led the squad to a total of 38 consecutive scoring streaks in the 2012–13 La Liga season.
This means Xavi's boys must score in every league game to accomplish Tito's record. Mathematically, that figure is out of reach for the current manager.
The hope of Xavi surpassing Pep's stats this season also looks gloomy. There are tougher fixtures, with a few fully fit players available to run the show. but hey! Never say never!
Xavi Ball can still psyche up the available players into dwarfing Pep's record by netting in all of the remaining league games. It's very possible! Remember, he won the league here in his first season, so he's got the trick to doing amazing stuff!
For Tito's record, we hope Xavi breaks it next season, but that could be a long wait as he's officially announced he's leaving at the end of the campaign. We hope he changes his mind and leads the team to more glory.
Where do we stand in Europe?
With regards to Europe's top five leagues, Barça are currently sitting in third place in terms of consecutive games finding the net.
Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur topple the list with 37 straight league games. The Italian club Inter Milan squats beneath on a run of 33 matches, with Barcelona in third place with 25.
