Marc Casadó gets his first La Liga moment on Sunday, February 17, 2024, in the Week 29 league fixture against Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano.
The 20-year-old La Masia graduate came on in the 82 minutes to replace another academy youngster, Hector Fort, at the left back.
The match ended in favor of the Catalan giant in a slick and clinical display. The first goal came in the 38th minute after Ilkay Gundogan dribbled past a still-Rojiblancos defender to set up Lewandowski, whose cutback was rolled into the back of the net by Joao Felix.
Barcelona, in less than 90 seconds, doubled the lead at the Civitas Metropolitano after Raphina picked up a loseball and immediately dinked it to Robert Lewandowski's path, and the Polish striker stepped away from Reinildo before smashing an off-balance shot across the face of goal that steered into the bottom corner, leaving Atletico Madrid keeper Oblak helpless.
Barcelona sealed the game in the 65th minute after Robert Lewandowski again whips up a pinpoint cross into the center-box and Fermin Lopez arrives to send a bullet header beyond the grasp of Oblak. The pass, the cross, and the finish were all done to perfection!
It ended 0-3 in favor of the visitors's, Diego Simeone's 25-match unbeaten record got shattered, and Xavi recorded a 5/5 hundred percent win against the rival coach as a Barcelona manager.
Marc Casadó, having his first experience in such an important away league fixture, told the FC Barcelona media afterwards,
"It’s a dream for me. I’d made my Champions League debut, but this was my first game in La Liga, and when they told me I was going on, the emotions you go through when playing your first game for the Barça first team—there are so many... It’s been a dream since I was little, and I’m very happy."
Xavi Hernandez had named Marc Casado, Fermin Lopez, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Hector Fort, all Barca Athletic boys, as part of the squad for the 2023–24 La Liga season, but Casadó hadn't once ended up on the pitch.
Over a year has passed since he made his debut in the Champions League in November 2022 at Viktoria Plzen, while he also got chances this season against Shakhtar Donetsk and Antwerp. And now, at last, he has played in the domestic championship against Diego Simeone's side.
"My team-mates helped me to stay relaxed; they encouraged me that it would go fine," he said of the experience. "In these moments, you remember everybody, but the most important thing is to concentrate and get it right on the field."
The 20-year-old defensive left-back also talked about the incredible change in the number of academy boys breaking into the first team under Xavi Hernandez's reign as 'spectacular'.
In his words, "we must be grateful to the club and the boss. I think La Masia is the essence of Barça, and things should stay that way."
As for the future, the player who has been at Barça since 2016, when he arrived from Damm, insists that "the ultimate goal is to keep getting playing time with the first team, and that means a lot of hard work."
