Barcelona teenager Guille Fernandez beats the Lamine Yamal record

Football academies exist at almost every club, particularly at the elite level, but few have built a reputation to rival that of Barcelona's famed La Masia.

The academy has been in the spotlight this season, with talents such as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and Hector Fort breaking into the first team.

There's plenty more inspiring young ballers breeding through La Masia, with Lamine Yamal having already lost one of his records on Week 30 to another offspring of Barca Atletic.

Guille Fernandez breaks Yamal’s Barça Atletic record

Indeed, during Barca Atletic’s win over Osasuna B on Sunday, March 31, at Tajonar, a 15-year-old boy named Guille Fernandez made his debut for Rafa Marquez’s side.

That evening, Guille Fernandez dethroned Lamine Yamal to become the youngest-ever player to debut for the Blaugrana’s reserve team after coming on as a substitute in the 80th minute for Marc Guiu.

Barça Atletic eventually won the encounter by making a brilliant 3-2 comeback after conceding two goals in the space of 20 minutes. All thanks to Pau Victor, Dimitrios Stamatakis, and Mikayil Faye's stunning free kick to complete the comeback and go second on the league table.

The victory further elevated Guille Fernandez's record. The 15-year-old made his debut with the Barça reserve team at the age of 15 years and 287 days, while Lamine Yamal was 15 years and 297 days old at the time.

Guille Fernandez, by just 10 days, took the record for the youngest player to play for Barca Atletic away from Lamine Yamal.

Who is Guille Fernandez?

Guillermo, also known as 'Guille' Fernandez Casino, is a 15-year-old midfielder at the famous La Masia Academy.

On September 19, 2023, the fast-rising midfielder played his first minutes in the Youth League, replacing Noah Darvich in the 66th minute against Antwerp (2-1).

Fernandez is highly regarded as one of the brightest talents in La Masia right now, thanks to his quick thinking and great physical strength.

The teenager is endowed with great vision, and he also excels at distributing assists to his teammates. No wonder Xavi Hernandez called him to first-team training this season despite his tender years.

Fernandez Guillermo has shown himself to possess great potential, and fortunately, he's in the best school renowned for breeding the greatest of the game. We hope he fully matures and makes Culers proud!
