Barcelona’s defeat to PSG in the Champions League quarter-final means Atletico Madrid qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup

Barcelona's defeat to PSG in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League night at the Montjuic is a big letdown for many reasons.

First, it's the first time Barça will be eliminated from European competition after winning away, and second, it also means that the Blaugrana giant won't be able to play in next year's highly anticipated Club World Cup.

The tournament will feature 32 teams and will last for a month in the United States, from June 15 to July 13. This new format of the competition will take place every four years rather than on an annual basis.

Barcelona had a chance to be in the tournament if they had progressed past the quarter-final stage, but as that wasn't the case, Diego Simeone’s men, who are six points clear of Barcelona in the standings, have clinched the second spot and would be joining Real Madrid to represent Spain. Read the full analysis on FIFA official website.

Surprisingly enough, it's not only Barcelona who will be missing out; other big teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, and AC Milan won't be there either. That's mainly because each country can only have two teams in the tournament, unless they have more than two continental champions.

Twelve teams from Europe have already secured their spots: Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern, PSG, Inter, Porto, Dortmund, Benfica, Juventus, Salzburg and Atletico

Some South American teams like Flamengo, Palmeiras, and Fluminense will also participate, along with River Plate and Boca Juniors.

Other football clubs that would be joining include the Seattle Sounders, Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia, the Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan, and Egypt's Al Ahly

Unfortunately, Inter Miami with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr won't be part of the tournament.
