FC Barcelona will reportedly help Íñigo Martínez find a new club to continue his career away from the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, according to a new report, which reveals the defender will not continue with the Catalan club next season.
Íñigo Martínez joined Barça on July 5, 2023, on a free transfer, having won the 2020–21 Supercopa de España as well as reaching two Copa del Rey finals with Athletic Bilbao.
Martinez has made 19 appearances, played a total of 1161 minutes, received 6 yellow cards, zero red cards, and scored zero goals since joining Barcelona in the 2023–24 season.
Culers are satisfied with the Ondarroan performances, but the emergence of vibrant and inspiring La Masia youngsters like Pau Cubarsí, Mikayil Faye, and Héctor Fort García means Barcelona have no other option than to offload Martinez and lighten the wage bill.
Barça will reportedly help him find a new club and even pay part of his salary. There are rumors that the Catalan giant agreed to a one-year contract with the defender for Financial Fair Play purposes but made a private pact that he would be given a two-year contract with a €400 million release clause.
However, I don't see Martinez continuing with Barça unless the club management decides to sell Jules Koundé or Ronald Araujo. But even if that unlikely situation were to happen, it’s not clear the 32-year-old would have a place.
