FC Barcelona could miss out on signing Nico Williams, the starboy of Euro 2024, which Culers openly confessed their admiration for and have been having sleepless nights over his transfer saga.
Why? One section of the media claims that Nico Williams would prefer to stay back at Athletic Bilbao no matter how attractive the offers from other clubs are.
Another is saying Barcelona sporting director Deco has identified Dani Olmo as an alternative.
Joan Laporta political opponent Victor Font further fueling the rumor adds:
"As it stands, Barcelona cannot sign Nico Williams. Laporta said it is possible, but it is not true. The financial situation is worse now than when Laporta came; we have more debts and fewer assets."
So who are we to believe in all of these brouhaha?
THE BIGGER PICTURE
A fresh report from Diario AS claims that Nico's family and the club Athletic Bilbao are pressuring him to stay back for at least one more season.
The pressure is so intense that even the calls from Alejandro Balde, his best friend at FC Barcelona, haven't been enough to convince Nico Williams, the report said.
Currently, Nico Williams and his elder brother Inaki Williams both play for Athletic Club. The brothers' were instrumental in Bilbao's success last season, winning the Copa Del Rey after years of missing out and qualifying for the Europa League.
Now, do you feel the family, including the elder brother Inaki, could've advised Nico Williams to wait and enjoin them to Europe to see if they can bring the Europa Cup home before leaving?
This is just my thinking!
WHAT NEXT FOR FC BARCELONA?
Nico Williams deal is on standby. Barcelona is still waiting for the player to communicate his decision.
Barça, while waiting, would want to lower expectations in order to avoid further disappointment in the event that Nico Williams does not arrive.
The rumored alternative to come is Dani Olmo, who many sports journalists believe is closer to joining Barcelona than Nico.
Player transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Instagram that blaugra have reached an agreement with Dani Olmo on a contract that lasts until June 2030!
WILL BARÇA GO FOR NICO WILLIAMS AGAIN IF THE DEAL FAILS?
FC Barcelona have informed Nico Williams that they won't wait for him next season.
The club's message to Nico Williams reads: "The Barcelona train will pass only now—it won't come next year."
The management knows Nico's having a few doubts, but they've informed him of the club's decision.
