Barcelona’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, was once again instrumental as the Catalan giants clinched the Copa del Rey title with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Real Madrid. The 17-year-old wonderkid provided two vital assists, helping Barça lift yet another trophy this season.
However, it wasn’t just Yamal’s footballing brilliance making headlines. During the post-match celebrations, he was spotted wearing two pairs of sunglasses — a bold fashion statement that sparked debate.
Former German international Dietmar Hamann didn’t hold back in his criticism.
“Lamine Yamal is doing well, yes, but wearing two sunglasses after the Copa del Rey win against Real Madrid on Saturday. That was unnecessary,” Hamann remarked.
This isn’t the first time Lamine’s dress sense has attracted scrutiny. Back in March, ex-Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart called him out for wearing his shorts too low while playing for Spain.
“I noticed some things about Lamine Yamal that started to bother me a bit… His shorts were a bit too low, he didn’t try too hard, he had some superficial gestures. If you’re so young, you should be happy for every minute you play for Spain. You have to show it,” Van der Vaart stated.
In true Yamal fashion, the young star responded with confidence — celebrating a goal for Spain by sagging his shorts even lower, making it clear he wouldn’t be easily swayed by outside opinions.
And honestly, when it comes to Dietmar Hamann’s comments, should we really be surprised? If you’ve ever visited or lived in Germany, you’d know how serious-minded and anti-fun their culture can seem at times. There’s absolutely no reason to take Hamann’s remarks to heart.
Remember when Toni Kroos criticised Antoine Griezmann for “doing too much” after dedicating a goal to his daughter? Typical German — always quick to dismiss anything that seems too expressive or playful.
While critics focus on Yamal’s off-pitch style, it’s impossible to overlook what truly matters — his dazzling achievements this season:
